Flying to Bali and Indonesia With Transferable Points

The most realistic paths use Qantas from Australia, Qatar through Doha, Singapore Airlines through Singapore, or Cathay Pacific through Hong Kong. The graph does not establish a fixed U.S.-to-Bali price, so search DPS and Jakarta before transferring any points.

Key takeaways

  • Qantas is the clearest graph-backed option for Sydney to Bali, with economy listed from 23,300 miles plus $147 one way on the chart dated August 5, 2025.
  • Qatar's 47,500-mile economy and 95,000-mile business figures apply to JFK-Bangkok off-peak, not all the way to Bali.
  • Singapore KrisFlyer and Cathay Pacific Asia Miles provide practical one-program routing through Singapore or Hong Kong, but the supplied graph does not establish their Bali prices.
  • Delta's Indonesia-related figures are dynamic examples, not award-chart prices you should expect to reproduce.
  • Confirm the exact flights with the booking program before transferring because award-search results can show phantom space and transfers are generally irreversible.

The realistic points routes to Bali and Indonesia

No graph-backed option provides a fixed U.S.-to-Bali price, but several programs give you workable ways to build the trip.

ProgramPractical routingGraph-backed referenceWhat the number does not prove
Qantas Frequent FlyerAustralia to BaliFrom 23,300 miles plus $147 in economy, Sydney to DenpasarIt does not price travel from North America to Sydney or guarantee saver space
Qatar Privilege ClubNorth America through Doha, with Bali or another Asian gateway as the destinationJFK-Bangkok from 47,500 Avios in economy or 95,000 Avios in business off-peakThe figures are for Bangkok, not Denpasar or Jakarta
Singapore KrisFlyerThrough Singapore to Denpasar or JakartaNo Bali price in the supplied graphSaver space is limited, and higher award types cost more
Cathay Pacific Asia MilesThrough Hong Kong to IndonesiaNo Bali price in the supplied graphThe mileage depends on the actual itinerary and current partner rules
Delta SkyMilesPartner awards involving Southeast AsiaAround 50,000 miles for one cited economy example and around 95,000 for one cited Garuda business exampleDelta pricing is dynamic, and neither example establishes a U.S.-Bali price

Search Denpasar (DPS) and Jakarta (CGK) as final destinations. If the long-haul award ends in Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney, or another gateway, the onward flight may require a separate award or paid ticket.

Qantas is useful if Australia is already part of the trip

Qantas Frequent Flyer lists Sydney to Denpasar economy from 23,300 miles plus $147 one way at the saver level in the AwardMath graph.

This is an unverified graph fact dated August 5, 2025. The underlying fee figure was listed as of January 22, 2025 and can change. Saver pricing also depends on restricted award inventory.

The number works best if you are beginning in Australia or have already found a separate award to Sydney. It is not a complete North America-to-Bali solution. Combining two separate tickets also creates connection risk because the second airline may not protect you if the first flight arrives late.

Price the complete trip before choosing this route. A cheap Sydney-DPS award can lose its appeal if reaching Sydney requires an expensive redemption, a long layover, or another large cash payment.

Qatar works as a routing model, not a quoted Bali price

Qatar Privilege Club can route you from the eastern United States toward Southeast Asia, but the graph's Avios figures stop in Bangkok.

The graph lists JFK-Bangkok economy from 47,500 Avios plus $197.66 one way off-peak, rising to 57,000 Avios at peak pricing. Business starts at 95,000 Avios plus $329.93 off-peak and rises as high as 190,000 Avios at the cited peak level. Both are unverified references from a chart dated September 16, 2024.

Do not apply those prices to Denpasar or Jakarta. Search JFK-DPS and JFK-CGK as complete itineraries in Qatar Privilege Club. If neither works, search the long-haul segment and the Southeast Asian connection separately, then compare the total Avios, cash, layover, and separate-ticket risk.

The older Bali route source reported Qatar service to Denpasar, but it dates to 2018. Confirm Qatar's current schedule and the exact flights shown by Privilege Club before planning around that routing.

Singapore KrisFlyer is the cleanest transfer path through Singapore

Singapore KrisFlyer is practical when you can find a single award through Singapore to Denpasar or Jakarta.

As reported in January 2026, KrisFlyer accepts transfers from American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Citi ThankYou. Singapore Airlines also reserves much of its own premium-cabin award inventory for KrisFlyer members, which can make its program more useful than booking the same flights through a partner.

The price depends on the award type. Saver awards cost the least but have the tightest inventory. Advantage awards cost more, while Access awards use dynamic pricing and can be much more expensive. The supplied AwardMath graph does not contain a KrisFlyer price for Bali, so check the current result rather than relying on an old chart or blog figure.

KrisFlyer miles expire 36 months after they are earned regardless of ordinary account activity. Do not transfer speculatively. Waitlisting also requires enough miles in the account and does not guarantee that the award will clear.

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles can connect Indonesia through Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles is another transferable option when the full itinerary through Hong Kong appears bookable.

As reported in June 2025, Asia Miles accepts 1:1 transfers from American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One, and Citi ThankYou. Cathay Pacific also participates in Oneworld, so Asia Miles can price Cathay flights and eligible partner combinations under its current rules.

A 2018 source listed Cathay Pacific service between Hong Kong and Bali, but that route information is too old to treat as current. Confirm the operating schedule to Denpasar or Jakarta before moving points. The supplied graph does not establish an Asia Miles price for either destination.

Search the complete itinerary first. Piecing together a long-haul award to Hong Kong and a separate ticket to Indonesia can increase availability, but it also means separate baggage rules and no guaranteed protection after a delay.

Delta's cited prices are examples, not targets

Delta SkyMiles can sometimes book Southeast Asian partner awards, but the graph only supports two dynamic examples.

One economy example from Western Europe to Southeast Asia on China Southern was around 50,000 miles plus $145 one way. One Garuda Indonesia business-class example from Southeast Asia to Western Europe was around 95,000 miles plus $30 one way. Both are unverified observations from a chart dated September 18, 2024.

These figures do not establish fixed rates, Bali availability, or pricing from the United States. Delta can change the mileage requirement based on the itinerary and date. Use SkyMiles only after comparing the exact result with transferable alternatives, especially if Delta asks for substantially more miles than KrisFlyer, Asia Miles, Qantas, or Qatar.

Search both Bali and Jakarta before splitting the trip

Searching Denpasar and Jakarta separately can reveal a workable long-haul award even when Bali does not appear.

Denpasar (DPS) is Bali's principal airport. Jakarta (CGK) is useful if your trip includes Java or if award space to Bali is missing. You can then compare a separate domestic flight with continuing on the original award.

A separate domestic ticket is not automatically the better deal. Add the cash fare, baggage charges, airport time, and a safe connection buffer. If you miss the second flight because the first ticket is delayed, the operating airline may require you to buy a replacement.

Also test nearby departure airports and one direction at a time. Award inventory often differs by segment, direction, and cabin. A mixed-cabin itinerary may show business class in the search result even if the longest flight is in economy, so inspect every segment before paying.

Confirm the seat before transferring points

Do not transfer points until the exact flights appear bookable through the program that will issue the ticket.

Start with an award-search tool such as Seats.aero or PointsYeah to identify dates, then repeat the search on the airline program's own site. For a partner award, cross-check the same flight through another alliance program when possible. If only one program displays the seat, call that program and ask an agent to confirm that the itinerary can be booked.

Phantom award space can appear online even though the airline cannot issue the ticket. Transfers from flexible bank points to airline miles are generally irreversible, so a failed booking can leave you with miles you did not intend to hold.

We verify the mileage math, not live inventory. Recheck the mileage, taxes, operating airline, cabin on every segment, transfer ratio, and transfer timing immediately before moving points.

Before you move any points

  • Every number here carries the date we checked it. That is what we saw that day, not a promise it still holds.
  • We do not show live seat availability. Award space moves by the minute, so check it in the program you will book with.
  • Before you transfer anything, confirm the flight, cabin, seat count and final cash price with the program issuing the ticket. Transfers between programs are one-way.
