Key takeaways

  • American AAdvantage is now a direct 1:1 Citi transfer partner, based on data observed August 12, 2026.
  • Most Citi airline partners transfer at 1:1, but Emirates transfers at 5:4.
  • Hotel ratios vary sharply, from 1:2 for Choice Privileges to 5:1 for The Leaders Club when written as Citi points required per partner point.
  • I Prefer appeared at 1:2 in our data, but that relationship remains unverified and should not be treated as part of the corroborated list.
  • Confirm the award with the loyalty program before transferring because Citi transfers are generally irreversible.

Current Citi ThankYou transfer partners and ratios

Citi had 18 corroborated direct transfer partners as of August 13, 2026.

The ratio shows Citi ThankYou points on the left and partner points or miles on the right. A 1:1 ratio means 1,000 Citi points become 1,000 partner miles. Temporary transfer bonuses are not included.

The addition of American matters because older Citi partner guides either omit it or describe it as a possible future partner. Our graph corroborated the direct 1:1 relationship on August 12, 2026. A separate April 2026 article also listed American among the airlines accessible through transfer-capable Citi accounts.

Partners that are not fully verified

I Prefer appeared as a direct 1:2 transfer in our August 12 data, but we have not corroborated it well enough to place it in the current list.

At the observed ratio, 1,000 Citi points would become 2,000 I Prefer points. Treat that as a lead to check in your Citi transfer portal, not as a confirmed transfer option.

Marriott Bonvoy also should not be counted as a direct Citi partner. Our graph recorded a possible effective 2:1 route through Cathay, Qatar, or Singapore, but this was indirect and unverified. It would require transferring Citi points to an airline program and then converting those miles into Marriott points under that airline's rules. Each conversion can change or disappear, so verify both steps before considering it. In most cases, an indirect transfer also creates more ways to lose value.

Which Citi cards can transfer points

Your Citi account's transfer page is the final authority on which partners and ratios you can use.

Transfer access can depend on the Citi card attached to your ThankYou account and how your accounts are combined. An April 2026 example described moving points earned with Citi Double Cash into a Citi Strata Premier or Citi Strata Elite account before transferring them to airline programs. Card eligibility rules can change, and a ratio available to one cardholder may not appear for another.

Sign in before planning around a partner. Check that the program appears, confirm the displayed ratio, and read the minimum transfer and increment rules. A promotional transfer bonus can improve the base ratio for a limited period, but do not assume an old bonus is still running.

How to read the unusual transfer ratios

Choice produces more partner points than Citi points, while Accor, Emirates, and The Leaders Club produce fewer.

The ratio alone does not tell you whether a transfer is good. Choice's 0.667:1 ratio means roughly 1,000 Choice points for every 667 Citi points. Emirates' 5:4 ratio means 1,000 Citi points produce only 800 Skywards miles. Accor requires two Citi points per ALL point, and The Leaders Club requires five.

You still need to compare the required award price, cash taxes, carrier surcharges, cancellation rules, and the cash price of the same booking. A 1:1 airline transfer can be poor if the program dynamically prices the flight at a high level. A ratio that looks weak can work if the partner uses fewer points or gives those points a fixed cash value.

How to transfer without stranding your points

Find the exact award in the loyalty program first, then transfer only the points needed to book it.

Award-search tools such as AwardTool, point.me, PointsYeah, Roame, and Seats.aero can help you scan dates and airports. Their coverage varies, and cached results can be stale. Independent testing has also found that tools can miss bookable options even when they claim to support a program.

Use a search tool to narrow the search, then confirm the flight or hotel directly with the program receiving your points. Check the number of seats, total mileage price, taxes, surcharges, and cancellation terms. Do not rely on a screenshot or cached result.

Citi transfers are generally irreversible, and transfer times can vary. Do not move points speculatively unless you are comfortable keeping them in that program if the award disappears.

Before you move any points

  • Every number here carries the date we checked it. That is what we saw that day, not a promise it still holds.
  • We do not show live seat availability. Award space moves by the minute, so check it in the program you will book with.
  • Before you transfer anything, confirm the flight, cabin, seat count and final cash price with the program issuing the ticket. Transfers between programs are one-way.

Sources we read

Prices, ratios and promotions move. Where a figure carries a date, that date is when we observed it, not a promise that it still holds.
