Key takeaways

  • Amex had 17 airline partners and four hotel partners as of August 12, 2026.
  • Most airline partners transfer at 1:1, but Cathay, Emirates, and JetBlue receive only 800 points per 1,000 Amex points.
  • Hilton receives 2,000 points per 1,000 Amex points, while Aeromexico receives 1,600.
  • Confirm the award seat and total cash charge before transferring because transfers are generally irreversible.

Amex hotel transfer partners

Amex had four hotel transfer partners as of August 12, 2026.

A larger number of hotel points does not automatically produce more value. Hotel programs set their own award prices, and those prices can move independently of the Amex transfer ratio. Compare the points price with the refundable cash rate for the same room and dates.

How to read the transfer ratios

The ratio tells you how many partner points you receive, not how much value you get.

A 1:1 transfer converts 1,000 Amex points into 1,000 partner points. The exceptions require more care:

Ratio1,000 Amex points becomePrograms using it
5:81,600 partner pointsAeromexico
1:22,000 partner pointsHilton
5:4800 partner pointsCathay, Emirates, JetBlue
4:1250 partner pointsThe Leaders Club

The award price and cash charges matter more than the ratio alone. A 1:1 airline transfer can be poor if the program dynamically prices the flight at a high level. A reduced 5:4 transfer can still work if that program has access to the flight you need at a lower total cost.

How to choose an Amex transfer partner

The right partner is the program that can book your exact flight or hotel for the lowest useful combination of points and cash.

Start with the trip, not the transfer partner. Search the operating airline’s program and relevant alliance partners. Airlines often release only a limited subset of their award seats to partners, so seeing a flight for sale does not mean another program can book it. Some programs also add carrier surcharges or higher partner-booking fees that erase an apparent mileage advantage.

For Avios, compare Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, and Qatar rather than assuming they will quote the same price or fees. For Star Alliance flights, compare Aeroplan, ANA Mileage Club, Avianca LifeMiles, and Singapore KrisFlyer when each program can access the seat. Their award rules, routing restrictions, cancellation terms, and cash charges differ.

Do not transfer merely because a program is exclusive to Amex or has a favorable-looking ratio. Transfer when the program has a bookable redemption you are ready to use.

Check the seat before transferring

Confirm the award on the loyalty program’s own website before moving any Amex points.

Award-search tools such as Seats.aero, PointsYeah, AwardTool, and point.me can narrow the search, but their coverage can be incomplete or cached. Treat a tool result as a lead. Reproduce the itinerary with the program that will issue the ticket, confirm the mileage price and cash charge, and only then transfer.

Transfers are generally irreversible, and transfer times can vary. A seat can disappear while points are moving. AwardMath verifies the transfer math, not live inventory.

Base ratios versus temporary transfer bonuses

The table lists base ratios observed on August 12, 2026, not temporary promotions.

A transfer bonus changes the short-term conversion rate without necessarily changing the underlying base ratio. For example, a July 2026 report described a temporary Hilton offer of 1:2.4 and later marked that offer dead. AwardMath observed Hilton’s base ratio at 1:2 on August 12, 2026, so 1:2 is the number used here.

Check the transfer page inside your Amex account for any targeted or limited-time bonus. Verify its end date and terms before relying on it, since published promotions can expire, return, or differ by account.

Before you move any points

  • Every number here carries the date we checked it. That is what we saw that day, not a promise it still holds.
  • We do not show live seat availability. Award space moves by the minute, so check it in the program you will book with.
  • Before you transfer anything, confirm the flight, cabin, seat count and final cash price with the program issuing the ticket. Transfers between programs are one-way.

Sources we read

Prices, ratios and promotions move. Where a figure carries a date, that date is when we observed it, not a promise that it still holds.
